“Electrification, Ripples & A Glass Plate”

In 2022, I participated in the Academy of Rythmorphology #1 at Slettnes, which is an artist-initiated study of rhythm and form that transcends various artistic disciplines and fields of knowledge.

Starting from the location and locality, rhythm and movement, which are the basis for perception and a common denominator for all living species, were explored from different perspectives. In dialogue with those who participated in ARm’s first tidal study, various materials were selected for a collective montage that reflects the participants’ encounters with tidal rhythms during a week of shared and individual investigations at Slettnes in 2022.

At Slettnes, the coastline is characterized by the slate bedrock where the waves have created deep vertical grooves and beaches leading straight into polar tundra. The tidal zone has a rich diversity of seaweed and kelp despite the increasing presence of sea urchins, and the rocky shore is ideal for the formation of tidal pools, which are in turn suitable for studying tidal life and rhythms.

These investigations were later transformed into a group work, with contributions from Marte Aas, Marielle van Dop, Miriam Jakob, Peeter Laurits, Ina Otzko, Margrethe Pettersen, Torgeir Vassvik, Izabela Żółcińska, Signe Lidén, Hilde Methi, Arjen Mulder along with me.

The work was shown at Fotogalleriet in a exhibition curated by Hilde Methi, one of the organizers of ARm. The exhibition period was from 27.09-12.11.2023.
